Sega Confirms: 'Valkyria Chronicles' Gamers to Engage in Battles on both PC and PS3
Sega confirmed on social media that their 2008 tactical role-playing game, "Valkyria Chronicles," is in development to become available on PC. "Valkyria Chronicles" is a Japanese turn-based, tactical role-playing game that is set in a fictional environment that forms the basis of an alternate historical context, similar to the European continent during the Second World War.
According to Polygon, the company confirmed the announcement on Twitter this week, while DigitalSpy announced that the Pan European Game Information (PEGI) board assigned "Valkyria Chronicles" a PEGI16 rating for personal computers on October 16.
Anime News Network explains that "Valkyria Chronicles" is a Japanese turn-based, tactical role-playing game that is set in the fictional region of Europa during an early World War II-like conflict. Sequels were released for PlayStation Portable in both 2010 and 2011; although, the third game in the series was only released in Japan.
The story of the original game and anime is set in the wartorn country of Gallia. When imperial forces attack the small border town of Bruhl, Welkin Gunther, son of the late General Belgen Gunther, is forced to fight for his life alongside Town Watch captain Alicia Melchiott. Along with Welkin's adopted sister, Isara, the three escape to Gallia's capitol and subsequently join the country's militia forces.
Also set in a creative interpretation of 1930s Europe, "Valkyria Chronicles" centers on the struggle of the neutral Principality of Gallia, as it is caught between two warring European superpowers and faces invasion over its Ragnite ore. The comprehensive, in-depth title combines gameplay elements from role-playing games, tactical role-playing titles and third-person shooters.
Many fans have expressed enthusiasm for the release of the 2008 video game in a PC-compatible version. One such gamer commented on IGN's report with the statement: "Slowly but surely JRPGs / SRPGs libraries are growing on the PC. A good thing."—the comment garnered 30-plus up votes from the other gamers on the website. Another comment said: "I don't have many PS3 games, but this is one of my rare favorites. Hopefully the PC version will come along with a few extra goodies. Rumor has it they're working on "Valkyria Chronicles Sacred Battlefield" too. I just hope they make that for the PC too and not just the PS4."
The online activity so far proves that many gamers are positive about the new development from Sega, while others are merely ranting. The developers at Sega can rest assured that many eager gamers are waiting for this PC release.
