ZZ Top Ready to Bring 'A Little Joy' to Houston With Benefit Show

One week after Hurricane Harvey left the southern-most part of Texas absolutely ravaged and rescue operations are still underway, many artists are stepping up to help. Classic rock's ZZ Top first formed in Houston back in 1969, so this tragedy really hits home for the band. Frontman Billy Gibbons recently vented a bit of frustration at being away on tour while his hometown is struggling to cope, then quickly shifted his focus towards how the band plans to help
"It says a lot about that Texas spirit that you see so many volunteers jumping in to lend a helping hand," said Gibbons to Rolling Stone."It could have been a lot worse, in terms of loss of life, but that seems to have been kept to a minimum. It's no fun. I'm trusting that Texas spirit to bring everybody through."
ZZ Top is currently on the road, but they already had a show scheduled for Sept. 10 at the Smart Financial Centre in Sugar Land, Texas- a venue located just 20 miles from Houston. Gibbons has confirmed that this tour stop is now an official benefit show that is expected to raise at least $100,000 for the people in dire need.
While Houston and its' surrounding area is dealing with the kind of calamity that the rest of the country can only imagine, it's good to hear that artists are stepping up to let people know that extra help is on the way. The money raised from ZZ Top's benefit show will certainly be put to good use and the band is also hopeful that their presence will bring those in attendance "a bit of joy". State of mind can be everything when it comes to dealing with any kind of crisis, especially for an extended period of time. Gibbons is right on point in mentioning the value of giving people something to look forward to, especially when they are looking at such a long and tedious road ahead.
