True Blood HBO Season 7 Spoilers, Did Joe Manganiello Survive? Episode 4 Promo, Watch Here (VIDEO)
"True Blood" Season 7 was back Sunday night on HBO with episode #3 titled, ""Fire in the Hole". Big spoiler contained below if you haven't watched the latest episode.
The hit HBO never hesitates to kill of main cast members and Sunday night's episode was no different. Alcide Herveaux (Joe Manganiello) was killed off last night to the surprise of many! This final season is sure to hold nothing back and hopefully will keep fans guessing with each new episode.
"What are you gonna do with Alcide if he's with Sookie? We're gonna have a nice wedding and take off for Bermuda, then move away from town and stay there and have babies?" Joe shared with Entertainment Weekly. "That's not the show. The fairy has to be with the vampire, so you gotta get the werewolf outta the way. You can't have her break Alcide's heart, because then people won't like Sookie-they'll get mad at her for breaking the good guy's heart. So it's the only choice you have, really-you gotta kill him."
"I'm glad it wasn't a vampire, 'cause I think that might have been emasculating," Joe said when asked about how Alcide dies. "He hates vampires so much, then he gets taken out by one of them? Is it better to get taken out by a nameless hillbilly? I don't know. [Laughs] I don't know what to say."
Manganiello also spoke with TV Line and shared about the decision for Alcide to die. When asked how long he know it was coming he said, "Honestly, I called it as soon as I read the finale last season. [Laughs] There was no way they could keep him around. Sookie has to settle things with the vampire guys, and you can't have Sookie break Alcide's heart because then the audience isn't going to side with her or identify with her. ... On a show like this, where you're looking for vital characters to kill off, you've got to take out Alcide. There's no one that's going to be upset that he's dead, except Sookie - and maybe Sam. Those are the only people he's interacted with ever. He got separated from the herd."
When recalling the moment the producers told him Alcide would die in Season 7 he shared, "I had dinner with the showrunner, Brian Buckner. I used to have dinner every season with [former showrunner] Alan Ball, where he'd tell me my character's arc and what to expect. So Bucky came and brought the three scripts with him. It wasn't some big, dramatic thing; we just sat down to dinner and he said, "You know we're killing you, right?" and I said, "Yeah, I figured."
If you are behind on old episodes, you can catch up here. Catch new episodes of "True Blood" Season 7 on Sundays nights at 9/8c on HBO.
