Mack Brock Shares His Views About Worship Songs, Songwriting & New Music

Centricity Music announces the signing of Multi-Platinum® songwriter and worship leader Mack Brock. The first single releasing in the new partnership, "Just Like You've Always Done," is now available at all digital and streaming outlets internationally via https://fanlink.to/JLYAD.
The anthemic "Just Like You've Always Done," which was produced by GRAMMY-nominated Hank Bentley (Jeremy Camp, Crowder, Danny Gokey) and co-written with Bentley and Jessie Early, boasts of the consistency of God yesterday, today and forever.
As a former, founding member of the GRAMMY Award-winning Elevation Worship, Brock co-wrote some of Elevation's earliest hits, like RIAA certified double Platinum® single "O Come To The Altar," Platinum-certified "Do It Again" and Gold® track "Resurrecting." After a decade with the worship band, Brock released his debut, Greater Things, which garnered him a radio hit with the title-cut. The five-track Covered EP followed the next year, and 2020's SPACE cemented Brock as a bonafide solo artist. He has also written songs recorded by Phil Wickham, Jesus Culture, Passion, Pat Barrett and Bryan & Katie Torwalt, among others
Q: Mack, thanks for doing this interview. Some of the songs you co-wrote, such as "Do It Again" and "O Come to the Altar," have been sung across churches worldwide. Did you imagine these songs would become so huge when you first co-wrote them?
When I was at Elevation, our first goal, and primary focus, was always to just write songs that we could sing in our church, for our people. Songs about what God was doing around us... and so it was always amazing when we'd see these songs take on life outside of the walls of our church. What a blessing to see the Lord take what he's doing locally, and use it globally.
Q: Where do you usually find your inspiration to write?
Life! We are all walking through something - good, bad, ups and downs. And through every season I'm in, the Lord is revealing new things about himself, about his word, through scripture, through conversations, through prayer. A lot of times, I'm processing something in life that I'm not even connecting to my music or a song, but then eventually it will find its way there.
Q: In your opinion, what makes a good worship song?
Man, that's a tough question. I think a song that speaks truth about who God is, about what his heart is, what he's capable of, about what he's already done, are all seeds that can be the start of a good worship song. Worship is an offering. It can look lots of different ways.
Q: Many of our readers are aspiring songwriters. What advice do you have for them?
Just write! I know that's kind of lame advice haha - but the best thing you can do is put "song writing" down on your calendar and commit to it. It's a muscle that you have to work out and work out often. And usually, with the business of life, it's the creative things that get pushed to the side. So if you can stay consistent, and dedicated to the work, that's the best way to grow.
Q: Recently, you signed with Centricity Music; how did this deal come about?
One of my oldest and closest friends, James Duke, works on the A&R team and it was just a natural connection. We love the team there.
Q: Tell us more about your new single, "Just Like You've Always Done."
It's just a song about the steadiness and consistency of God. No matter how often our situations change, our seasons fluctuate, Jesus stays the same and we can find a lot of rest and hope in that.
Q: In terms of new music, what can we expect in 2024?
A new album... I'm excited for you to hear these new songs. I've been writing for a few years now and so proud and ready to get these songs out into the world.
