7eventh Time Down “We Praise You” Album Review

Prime Cuts: We Praise You, God Is in This House, House of the Lord
Overall Grade: 5/5
Recording a worship covers album isn't novel-Michael W. Smith, Jeremy Camp, Rebecca St. James, and Shane & Shane have all done it. So, is 7eventh Time Down's "We Praise You" deserving of a five-star rating? Surprisingly, yes-for two key reasons. First, today's worship landscape is saturated with soft, introspective ballads. While those piano-led, emotionally driven songs have their place, they don't speak to everyone. "We Praise You" brings a refreshing jolt of energy. It reminds us that worship doesn't have to be sentimental or subdued-it can be bold, loud, and driving. With wailing guitars, pounding drums, and tempos soaring past 140 BPM, 7eventh Time Down shows that worship can flex its muscles without losing its reverence.
The trio's spirited rendition of Phil Wickham's "This Is Amazing Grace" proves that high-energy, rhythm-driven tracks still have a vital place in worship. Wickham's other contribution, "House of the Lord," is equally vibrant, offering a joyful and celebratory tone as the band calls believers to rejoice-reminding them that, through Christ, sorrow gives way to joy and captivity to freedom. Their interpretation of Charity Gayle's "I Speak Jesus" also stands out, marked by a reverent intensity. The holy roar in their vocal delivery lends a powerful sense of conviction and emotional weight to the song.
The second reason this album deserves a perfect rating is the thoughtful selection of songs. Refusing to be confined to a single era, 7eventh Time Down bridges generations of worship music. They reach back to 1998 with a compelling rendition of dc Talk's "My Will," while also embracing the present with a powerful take on Brandon Lake and Matt Redman's title track, "We Praise You." The latter is a masterfully crafted worship anthem-its structure builds with steady intensity, guiding listeners into deeper confidence and joy in God's presence. And for hymn-loving worshippers, the band offers a reverent version of Matt Boswell and Matt Papa's "His Mercy Is More," ensuring no one is left out of the worship experience.
As an added bonus, two original songs are also included. "Faithful Still" is a heartfelt, rock-infused worship anthem that celebrates God's unwavering faithfulness through every season of life. Meanwhile, the vibrant and uplifting "God Is in This House" inspires boldness and assurance in God's nearness and power within both the church and individual lives. Throughout this record, 7eventh Time Down demonstrates that worship music can be fun, energetic, singable, and deeply impactful-inviting listeners to engage with faith in a fresh and powerful way.
