Getting to Know Mark: K-Pop’s Rising Star with a Grounded Faith

Global audiences are discovering a new side of Mark Lee - known simply as Mark - as he steps into the spotlight with his debut solo album, The Firstfruit (The 1st Album), released April 7, 2025 under SM Entertainment. Best recognized as a member of NCT, NCT 127, NCT Dream, and SuperM, Mark is now carving out his own artistic path, blending musical versatility with a personal story deeply rooted in faith.
Born in Toronto, Canada and raised in Vancouver, Mark grew up in a Christian household where gospel music and worship shaped his earliest encounters with melody and rhythm. That grounding continues to influence his artistry today, even as he experiments across genres including pop, hip-hop, R&B, rock, house, and alternative.
His debut album, The Firstfruit, is both a declaration and a reflection. Structured around four formative cities - Toronto, New York City, Vancouver, and Seoul - the 13-track collection mirrors Mark's journey from trainee to global artist. Its title holds dual significance: celebrating his first major solo project while nodding to the biblical imagery of offering "firstfruits" to God, symbolizing what is most precious and set apart.
The lead single "1999" highlights Mark's ability to fuse pop-funk energy with thoughtful lyrics, while tracks like "Raincouver", "Loser", and "+82 Pressin'" (featuring HAECHAN) display his storytelling depth and collaborative spirit. Guest appearances from artists such as Lee Young Ji and Crush further expand the album's sonic reach.
Commercially, The Firstfruit debuted at No. 1 on Korea's Circle Album Chart, sold over 500,000 copies, and earned a Platinum certification. Yet for Mark, success is measured not only in numbers but also in authenticity - staying true to his roots while inviting fans to experience the intersections of music, memory, and meaning.
"Faith has always been part of who I am," Mark has shared in interviews. "This album is about reflecting on where I've come from and offering something real - something that feels like me."
With The Firstfruit, Mark bridges his identity as a global K-pop star with his journey as a believer, offering fans worldwide a glimpse into the heart behind the music.
