Attack on Titan Season 2 Won't Be Out Anytime Soon, But Attack on Titan Prequel Will Be Released Beginning December 2014
Although Attack on Titan Season 2 is confirmed, there is still no official release date yet, nor an episode list, nor an Attack on Titan Season 2 trailer. Wit Studios hasn't even begun production on Season 2 because there aren't enough volumes of the Attack on Titan manga that have come out yet to comprise the material that will cover an entire season of the anime TV series, according to iDigital Times. As of now, only thirteen volumes have been published. Chances are, they'll begin to make the next series once volume 16, at the very least, is out. As noted by iDigital Times, Attack on Titan is an adaptation and as such can't be expected to surpass what's being adapted.
In an interview with Rocket News 24 way back in January, Joji Wada, who Heads Wit Studio which produces the Attack on Titan franchise, already disclosed that although they want to do a sequel, it just can't be done this year. He said, "Eventually, we definitely want to do a sequel. This year, though, we've got our hands full producing an anime that will be bundled in a limited edition of the Attack on Titan manga, which tells a different sort of story than what we did in the TV series."
What is in production now is a new anime series adapting the prequel manga Attack on Titan: No Regrets, Birth of Levi. It will consist of two episodes, scheduled for release on DVDs on December 9, 2014 and April 9, 2015, respectively, according to the Anime News Network. It will come bundled with the source manga material. Also according to the Anime News Network, the Attack on Titan (Season 1) television anime series will be recompiled into two theatrical films. The first film, Attack on Titan Part I: Crimson Bow and Arrow, will open on November 22. The second film, Attack on Titan Part II: Wings of Freedom, will open sometime next year.
On September 23, 2014, the Attack on Titan Part 2 (not Season 2) which covers Episodes 14-25 will be released on Blu-Ray and DVD. Also, a new Attack on Titan game for smartphones is under development by Mobage for the iOS and Android platforms according to the Anime News Network.
