ABC's Selfie premieres tomorrow!; Karen Gillan and John Cho do a modern take on My Fair Lady
Selfie, ABC's newest comedy series, premieres tomorrow, September 30. Created and produced by actress and Emmy Award nominated writer Emily Kapnek, Selfie on ABC is a modern version of George Bernard Shaw's My Fair Lady, which is a tale of self-transformation. This time, the story is set in a world obsessed with Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and where nothing is official until shared online.
Selfie stars Karen Gillan as the self-absorbed Eliza Dooley while John Cho plays marketing expert Henry Higgenbottom. Henry then tries to show Eliza that she should have actual friends to connect with, and that there's more to life than playing Candy Crush or checking out her Facebook page.
Gillan is best known as Amy Pond in the sci-fi cult favorite, Doctor Who, and as Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy.
Selfie also stars Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Allyn Rachel, and David Harewood.
In Selfie Episode 1, Eliza discovers that her new boyfriend is actually married. To avoid ruining her online reputation - she has 236,000 Instagram followers, after all - she makes herself over by enlisting the help of image and branding whiz Henry. He takes her as his date to a wedding but typical of the sitcom universe, things don't go as planned.
