Teen Titans to be developed for TV on TNT - Nightwing Taking the Lead
TNT is near a deal to produce a pilot for Titans - as in Teen Titans.
Variety reported the news, revealing the lead in the potential series would be Nightwing/Dick Grayson, the former Robin. Variety names Starfire and Raven as other members of the team.
Akiva Goldsman will executive produce the series. Goldsman has been known to write and direct films like A Beautiful Mind, I Am Legend, The Da Vinci Code, Lone Survivor and much more. On TV, Goldsman also was a writer, director and consulting producer on Fringe for much of its run.
The TV show will soon join the superhero franchises of Arrow, The Flash, Gotham, Constantine and iZombie among DC-based properties on the air.
Marc Haimes will serve as co-executive producer and both he and Goldsman write the pilot together.
Dick Grayson, as Robin, was of course part of the campy 1960s Batman TV series, played by Burt Ward. A few years ago, the CW was developing a potential new TV show, The Graysons, that would have focused on Dick before he met Batman. That project never happened, among rumors DC/WB stopped its development at the request of Christopher Nolan, who was said to not want any conflicting live-action Batman-related projects airing while his Dark Knight films were still being made.
