'Pacific Rim 2' Release Date Announced: The Kaiji World Rises Once More In 2017
Last year, colossal robots and gigantic creatures shaked theaters and cinemas in the sci-fi movie "Pacific Rim". The movie grossed over $400 million in the box office sales internationally.
The plot of the first installment featured a war between humans and monstrous sea creatures. This war led a former pilot and his trainee to team up and drive a superficially superseded special weapon, in their desperate efforts to save the world from the catastrophe.
The 2013 hit movie "Pacific Rim" starred Charlie Hunnam as Raleigh Beckett and Rinko Kikuchi as Mako Mori.
The upcoming film is set to be directed by its creator Guillermo del Toro once more, with Travis Beacham and Zak Penn, as his co-writers. The film will also be produced by Callum Greene, Jon Jashni, Mary Parent, Jillian Share, and Thomas Tull.
The director, with his screenplay co-writer Travis Beacham, confirmed "Pacific Rim 2" in IGN. "We are writing the sequel. Travis Beacham and I are writing, so that is active. The decision to green light or not, that's definitely above my pay rate," del Toro said.
According to Rolling Stone, the director was also given the green light by Legendary Pictures. "Legendary gave me the absolute go-ahead with writing the screenplay, so Travis Beacham and I are working on it. As far as giving it a green light, that's the big step of the process," he said. We need to put together a budget and then they'll make that decision, but everybody is unwavering in their love for the movie," the director added.
Thomas Tull, the founder of Legendary Pictures, was also asked by ShockTillYouDrop for an update with regards to the much anticipated second installment. "I was literally just with Guillermo on the set of Crimson Peak. We talk about it and have some pretty great ideas. If they come to fruition and we get a great script, then we're open to it. Fans seem pretty passinate about it and working with Guillermo. So we're open to it," Tull said.
The second installment of the sci-fi film "Pacific Rim" is set to be released in theaters and cinemas on April 7, 2017.
