Micromax Canvas 5: New Cyanogen MOD Powered Smartphone, Exciting Specs, Features and More
A new and upcoming smartphone from Micromax have sparked numerous speculations and rumors about its specifications.
According to IBTimes, the Micromax Canvas 5 will run on the CyanogenMOD operating system. It is to be considered as the successor for the previous Micromax Canvas 4 which was released earlier this year in July.
The Micromax Canvas 5 will feature a 5 inches of full high definition display screen, along with an Aluminum back portion and will include a crystal clear rear camera with 18 Megapixels plus a 5 Megapixel one for the front camera.
One of its unique selling propositions is that the smartphone will run on the CyanogenMod version of the Android 4.4.4 Kitkat with a massive 2GB of RAM and an internal memory storage. It will also support MicroSD expansions.
Currently, there are no further updates on when the MicroMax Canvas 5 will be released.
Once the Micromax Canvas 5 is released, it will be third in line of smartphones, which support the custom ROM CyanogenMOD. The first company to release a smartphone that run on CyanogenMOD was Oppo Electronics Corporation and followed by OnePlus.
What makes the custom ROM coveted is its endless possibilities for further customization, due to the support of the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). Aside from changing how the interface looks, performance tweaks and shortcuts can also be made, which is not thoroughly available on the stock Android OS.
Over 12 million Android users worldwide are reported to be using the custom ROM.
The Information reports that Google's offer to merge with the CyanogenMod team was rejected. The team is just looking for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) who can be their partners and invest in their company.
A report from NDTV Gadgets say that the Micromax Canvas 5 will sport a new Octa core chipset from the MediaTek MT67 line. The rumors of the release are due to reports that indicate the CyanogenMod team had made a deal with the India-based mobile manufacturing company, Micromax, to release a smartphone that is powered by their custom ROM.
The Micromax Canvas 5 is estimated to be within the price range of below Rs. 22,000.
