Nick Jonas Explains Choice to Not Wear Purity Ring But that Faith and Church Are Still Important Part of His Life (VIDEO)
Nick Jonas has been been in the spotlight most of this life as his band Jonas Brothers took off as an early teen with his brothers Joe and Kevin. There was a lot of interest in Nick choosing to wear a purity ring and being very open about his faith and values.
With Nick now launching his new solo career and debut album, his songs are getting more mature as he grows up and no longer wears his purity ring. So fans have been wondering where he is at with his faith journey currently.
He recently spoke with HuffPo and opened up about his journey in life and his choice not to wear the ring anymore saying, "This is a real growth in me and not something I'm doing anymore. But I've got my set of values, things that are important to me now at this point in my life and that's all that matters." He continued, "I've had an incredibly intense journey with faith and religion and my own growth. My belief in God is still very strong and important to me as a person and I think that's all that should matter. I grew up in a church environment and still have love for the church."
The 22-year-old singer just celebrated the release of his new music video for his single "Jealous" which featured a guest cameo from his girlfriend Olivia Culpo. You can check out the video above.
"You're all gonna have to keep your eyes peeled for all the hidden messages in the video tomorrow," he tweeted.
"Jealous" is the latest single off of the upcoming debut solo album from Jonas releasing in November from Island Records.
"It's about when someone is checkin' out your girl and you're out, and it's that whole experience I think a lot of men relate to but don't actually talk about," Nick told E! News. "There have been a few instances where I'll see somebody do something when I'm with my girl, and I'm like, 'What? That is not the time or the place. "I've been training for this show, so now I really know how to take care of things and I know how to puff my chest a bit more than I was before."
He shared with MTV news about the sound of his new album, "I've been really influenced by a lot of modern stuff, as well as like my classic roots, so Prince being a big one, a lot of falsetto work, Hall & Oates, is a big part of this, and then The Weekend and singing Drake, which I feel like is a different artist to Drake rapping, but I love them both. But singing Drake and this guy Erik Hassle, a new artist that I really love, and, you know, Sam Smith and that kind of vibe, so like if you kind of mash that all together: it's that."
"That's what I grew up on and that's what feels natural when I open my mouth to sing and so having a pop alternative music bed with the soul vocal, I feel like really works," he explained. "I think this is definitely more of a mature sound as it relates to Jonas Brothers music and Nick Jonas & the Administration."
