'Under The Dome' Slated for Season 3 To Be Released on Summer 2015
American broadcasting network, CBS has just recently announced that they will be renewing the hit science-fiction TV series "Under The Dome" for its Season 3 broadcast, Hypable reports.
The new season will air on the summer of 2015, following the cliffhanger from its season 2 finale. "We're committed to delivering our viewers and advertisers year-round programming with a wide variety of storytelling," said CBS Entertainment Chairman Nina Tassler in their announcement on Thursday. She added, "We continue to see summer as a great place for unique concepts, innovative business models and passionate television audiences."
Television ratings for "Under The Dome" decreased from Season 1 to Season 2 but still went strong, considering the show airs during summer. According to The Epoch Times, it was a summer top rated fiction series with 11 million concurrent viewers; 2.7 million of it is in the 18-49 demographic. Also from TVLine, Season 1 had 13.5 million total viewers, while the Season 2 finale drew 7.5 million. With these statistics, CBS is more confident in the show's success.
Season 2 finale has made several characters dead, including the new addition Rebecca. It also saw Big Jim got too far with himself, and left Chester Mill's citizens close to finally getting out of the dome.
The show's executive producer, Neal Baer, mentioned that he is planning for three to five seasons for the whole show, and added that the ultimate ending is changing constantly, even though it will be different from the original book. "It changes as the show continues. I don't really know [how it ends] - we have certain ideas that we can do, but it's in flux."
Apart for the Season 3 announcement, CBS also sealed the deal with Amazon Prime for the show and another series named "Extant," for a reported $900,000 per episode. Amazon Prime will be the exclusive provider of video streams for both of the series. CBS did not announce the exact premiere date of "Under The Dome", but following the premiere dates of the first two seasons, Season 3 will be most likely released on late June 2015.
